Aircraft and Ship Charters

When transporting bulk-sized cargo, you may require specialist aircraft or ship charters. That’s where our team of dedicated professionals can help. We work closely with aircraft operators and charter vessel operators to provide our clients with a cost-effective and reliable project cargo service.

Marine Insurance

Project cargo services are subject to unavoidable forces and accidents that can lead to loss and damage of goods. It’s important to understand that, depending on the terms of trade, marine insurance may not be included and may need to be provided by the importer or exporter. Success Stories

truck with oversized cargo
A tier-one client urgently needed assistance to move Out of Gauge cargo in peak season for a major energy project from China and Turkey. Our team was challenged to promptly source space and provide an overall solution to deliver on project deadlines. While the consignment was only made up of 36 items, they were fragile, oversized, and had a combined weight totalling more than 45,000kg.

After receiving the dimensions of the equipment, we worked with pace to identify the fastest, most cost-effective and reliable solution for transporting such a heavy consignment in peak season. Such specialist heavy equipment needs to be loaded and unloaded by crane with even weight distribution. Lashings need to be stable, with reasonable consideration given to the receiving unpack depot at the other end; however, it cannot be so rigid that it is impossible to unpack as this can cause cargo damage.

With Stockwell’s quick reaction time, the optimum solution had been selected and agreed with the client. Two 13.6m trailers were sourced as part of the solution. Both had retractable roofs to enable the required loading and unloading and the reinforced flooring necessary for the heavy load.

The local knowledge, close networking relationships and expertise demonstrated by the Stockwell’s team allowed for both the trucks and the space to be booked immediately and confirmed within 24 hours. By securing the bookings ahead of schedule, we were able to save the client a significant amount of stress had the transportation requirement rolled into peak periods, and the special equipment truck had been unavailable at the required times.

Like all shipments transported by Stockwell International, the client was given complete visibility of their consignment and provided regular updates. The team’s rapid response time, in-depth knowledge and constant communication exceeded the client’s expectations, and they were delighted by the service excellence they received.

  • Displayed in-depth knowledge of transporting heavy OOG cargo to minimise the client’s downtime
  • Provided total visibility and control to the client, ensuring they received constant communication relating to their consignment’s journey
  • Secured a suitable vehicle that could deliver all 45,000kg of heavy cargo at short notice and within budget
  • Demonstrated strong networking relationships and local knowledge to outcomes ahead of schedule, exceeding client expectations

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have any questions about our project cargo management? Check out the FAQs.

A project is classified either as a short-term import or export, generally in large volumes, or larger than normal freight, such as over width or height and heavy.  Shipments are usually in intervals, that are spread over a number of weeks or months for one particular location such as a Wind or Solar farm, mining sites, building project etc.

OOG are any goods that cannot be moved inside a container due to its height or length. This would be shipped either via an OT (Open Top) or FR (Flat Rack) or even as an individual piece as break bulk cargo.

Yes. This has to be taken back to a specialised CFS to be unpacked via crane lift and special trucking equipment. Once unpacked this can then be picked up from the specialised CFS for transport on our specialised vehicle as loose cargo and that meets the height and weight regulations.

OOG is priced on the number of slots that is used on the vessel. Normal containers can’t be stacked on top of an open top so you are minimising the vessels capacity, the vessels lose the space upwards and to the sides of the OT containers so must make up for this in the higher rate. Break Bulk cargo is different again in that it is charged per revenue tonne or cubic metre.

Slots are calculated on height of the goods, and the amount of containers this OT container will take up.

When cargo is discharged off the vessel under hook you are nominated a pickup time due to the size and weight of the cargo, if you cannot get a truck to coincide with these timeframes there will be additional charges.  You can also expect the additional underhook crane lifts that are required when lifting direct onto truck to be charged at around $1000 per crane lift (depending on the Stevedore and shipping line used).  Under hook simply means the ships own crane’s hook lifts the cargo off the vessel.
